Here are just a few:

“… my bookcases have now got a new home, thanks to your site. I think they were only on a good two weeks before they were 'claimed'. It really is a good idea, how often do we not have use for something anymore but think it is a shame to scrap it. … long may rag-and-bone reign. I will certainly use it again to look for or pass on goods.”
Sue, Derbyshire

“… I'm glad I tried (the website) and I will advertise any other household item that I don't need in the future. It is a really good idea and much better than throwing things away that other people might find useful. I will keep checking the site (to see) if there is anything that I need.”
Ann, Derbyshire

“… I just discovered your website – GREAT! Thank you for creating such a logical recycling network. I'd love to see it get big! I hope …… that EVERYONE (gets to know) about it!”
Cathie, East Sussex

“… I think that your service is an excellent idea. Congratulations.”
Roy, Derbyshire

“… I found your site recently via the refuse site in sheffield. It is such a great idea and I have already been lucky enough to have a computer which works so well and is being enjoyed by my son. Thanks so much for this wonderful site.”
Lorna , South Yorkshire

We’ve also been commented about in the news too.
Here’s a selection:

Recycle now: A load off your mind

The Star: Net gain from rags to riches

Grownupgreen: Rag and Bone Revived

Dronfield Eye: Website replaces dumpit site

Homestyle: Finding a home for unwanted items ...

New Consumer: Don't tip your big junk ...

Articles about us have also appeared in Permaculture magazine, Dronfield Profile, House and Garden, The Green Parent. That’s why we designed this website, to provide an essential resource through which people can find good homes for their no longer needed, but still usable or repairable, items.

If large or bulky household items still have some life left in them, then why not enable someone else to benefit from them, instead of simply throwing them away and adding to even more waste in the environment?

The idea came about when we ourselves had a number of items (including a fridge-freezer, a snooker table and a lawnmower) that were still in good working order, but we were moving and had no room to take them with us. We felt it was extremely wasteful to throw them away, and required far too much effort to try to sell. We would have loved to have given them away to someone who could continue to make use of them, but at the time, there was no way of linking up with people to let them know the items were available, for free, to be collected.

We’ve therefore set up rag-and-bone.co.uk – a central place to advertise large or bulky household items that are no longer required, and where others can search to find items they can give a new home.

Rag-and-bone.co.uk is a family owned business and launched in April 2005.

We hope that everyone enjoys using it.

dbmt: Recycling Blog

dbmt: Recycling Blog

PSA and Perfect Internet Moment
There is a website (www.freecycle.org) that is the hub for a ring of people who want to get rid of stuff, without throwing it away. I have used the local tentacle of this octopus, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SFFN/, to get rid of monitors, computers, cell phones, children’s books, a television, and much more. It’s like a huge garage sale, except you give stuff away, no money involved. I got a plain pine five-by- three bookshelf for free.
